There are some general guidelines, or, choices a customer should be considering when looking to purchase custom or designed vinyl banners. These are the technology expectations that a customer should be able to find on the site as a minimum in industry standards.
There are many self design or do it yourself tools for the customer to use in aiding the design of the vinyl banner. However, many customers may find it frustrating and defer to a generic preprinted banner or the banner companies graphic designer and other graphic resources and specs.
In general, the customer can upload graphics, buy online graphics, add color, borders, and other hardware options. They are able to see a sample of the quality of the final product. They may also become aware that they need more help with knowledge about materials, mounting, banner size, and graphic design. In order to provide the necessary information, customers are able to refer to a customer service representative at any time during the ordering process.
General Composition Guidelines for the Customer
The most eye catching designs contain 3 to 4 basic elements. Typically, it will be composed of a graphic, a text headline, and something that reminds people of your company branding such as your company name, mascot, telephone number, or address.

Colors
In general, the brighter the colors, the more noticeable your sign will be!
Readability
Design your vinyl banner so it is readable for your target audience. Sometimes that means not using graphics in order for your target audience to notice the message.
Resolution
Make sure your images have sufficient resolution for the graphics or photos that you use. Also, make sure that the banner printer has sufficient equipment to print at a higher DPI (or dots per inch).
Size
Most people who are trying to buy a banner by guessing will find that they don't actually know the size they need. Careful measurement is needed for this task.
